Day #2

Today, Monday June 17, was a very eventful day. I got to see some great speakers and some not so great speakers shadowed by some amazing performers. The first seminar I attended was Spotify: Music for Millennials. Spotify’s original mission was simple: to create a platform better than piracy. Spotify’s goal was to create a platform in which users can search, collaborate, and build playlists at your fingertips.  The program sifts through tons of consumer data to make recommendations for the user.  In regards to ads, Spotify understands that it is crucial to have the right content at the right moment. If you are about to go on a run, you should hear an ad from Nike to inspire you. The goal is to make the ads as interesting and as engaging as the content itself.

The second seminar I watched was How Creativity Can Create A Better Future. Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard are founders and pilot of the first ever-solar powered plane called Solar Impulse. Solar Impulse is the first airplane with unlimited endurance. In 2015, Borschberg and Piccard plan to fly this amazing aircraft in a non-stop flight around the world.  The plane is as big as a jumbo jet however it is as light as a single car. Check it out:

The third seminar I watched was Fashion, Sex, Celebrity and Character: A Candid Conversation With Sarah Jessica Parker and Joanna Coles. To be brutally honest I didn’t really get much out of this presentation. Don’t get me wrong, Sarah Jessica parker is a very successful person and has really shown how successful women can be in this day in age.  But the seminar lacked content and focused a lot on Sex and the City. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

The fourth seminar I watched was, Defying Gravity: Achieving the Impossible. Now this was a very cool seminar.  Worldwide CEO Cater Murray from FCB brought in Tim Webber, creative director from Framestone, to give a behind the scene sneak peak of Gravity. Webber went trough a step-by-step analysis of each problem that arose during the filming of the movie and the creative solutions used to solve them.  Here are some pictures explaining how Webber was able to create the feel of no gravity here on earth, its unbelievable:

The fifth seminar I watched was called Meet the Disruptors: Spike Jonze and Gaston Legorburu on building Worlds with Technology and Story.  Spike Jonze seems like an awesome guy. He’s written and directed some awesome stuff such as Jackass, Beasty Boyz music videos, and has worked with many other amazing actors and musicians. That being said, the moderator was terrible. Awkward questions and long stories seemed to catch Spike Jonze off guard and made him look like he didn’t know what he was talking about, when in reality it was the moderator that was asking the questions (or lack there of) who was the real problem.  Once Spike turned to the crowd and asked for some different questions the seminar went much more smoothly and was very interesting. It was unfortunate for Jonze and for the audience.

Finally, The Sin City Chronicles How Vegas Can Inspire Brands With Dynamo, was really cool. Ash Bendelow, the managing director of Brave gave a 30-minute presentation about how Vegas can be related to advertising, but this wasn’t the cool part. For the last 15 minutes Dynamo, a TV personality and Magician came on stage and blew everyone’s mind with crazy card tricks and unbelievable mind reading. After this presentation I went the Google Sandbox down on the beach and had a couple drinks before claiming the VIP Tickets  to the Lions award ceremony I had won earlier that day! Finishing the day in Juan Les Pin, the nearby city where we are staying and cheering on USA in their win over Ghana in the World Cup, was a great cap to the day. Waking up early and going to bed late is causing the days to seamlessly blend together into one long, awesome day.
